The purpose of the present article is to analyze the conformation of the border areas under the jurisdiction of Mendoza’s city during the colonial period and present a historical periodization of that process. To this effect, we will use the specific bibliography about the historical configuration of the region. Additionally, we will use unpublished documentary sources such as official correspondence and military and traveller’s diaries over the region. With analytical purposes, we will propose the existence of four phases in the colonizing process over the indigenous territory.
